Hill Song by Anonymous (translation)山歌

An anonymous song from the Ming Dynasty:

Hill Song

Not writing verses

Not writing poems

I sent a plain square of kerchief

To the one who knows my heart

He who knows my heart took it

And looked at it this way and that

Strands of silk from right to left

Strands of silk ran up and down

Who will know what’s in this heart?
