Western Suburbs Orchids, Ashfield

Again, another orchid show had taken me away from the Lower North Shore of Sydney beyond my usual stamping ground.  The suburb of Ashfield was known as Little Shanghai so it was an added incentive to get on the train and head west.  Shanghai dumpling beckons; but first, the orchids.

A Phalaenopsis amongst Dendrobiums

It was a modest display but the quality of the Dendrobiums was outstanding.  I had a chat with the grower, Gary Hodder who confirms that the orchid roots must be tightly confined in the pots for them to flower well.

The venue was outside the supermarket in Ashfield Mall.  The sales area dominates.

After feasting my eyes on the orchids I did not buy any but ventured into the street to look for a feed.  I was not disappointed.  Ashfield deserves the title Little Shanghai.
