Say it with Slippers (or Paphiopedilum)

Today I saw an amazing display of Paphiopedilum, commonly known as Slipper Orchids at The Centre, Dural.  The venue looks like a barn and did not show off the blooms in the best light but they couldn’t help being beautiful.

Even their foliage was spectacular and they were duly awarded prizes just for their leaves.

The growers were busy selling their stock

One came home:

Edit 20 October 2017:  this turned out to be a good investment as it has not stopped flowering since I brought it home:

These are gorgeous things. The speckled leaves remind me of trout lilies in the spring woods and one of those blossoms looks a great deal like a trillium. Wow. I admire you ability to keep them happy out of the woods.
