‘Occasional Poem on Returning Home’ 2/2 by He Zhi Zhang (translation)

This is the second poem with the same title by the Tang Dynasty poet, He Zhi Zhang (659-744).  I posted the translation of the first one two years ago.  Please click the link (in blue) to read that post.

Occasional Poem on Returning Home (2/2) by He Zhi Zhang

It has been many years since I left home

Everything seems frayed and faded now

But the water in the mirror lake outside our house

Remains unmoved as always by the spring breeze

(c) Mary Tang 鄧許文蘭 2017

回鄉偶書(二)。賀知章

離別家鄉歲月多,近來人事半銷磨。

唯有門前鏡湖水,春風不改舊時波。

A beautiful pair of poems. What a universal experience to return “home” and see that everything has changed, and yet nothing changed at all.
