To an Old Friend by Zhang Ji (translation)

To an Old Friend by Zhang Ji (767 – 830)

Confined in the infirmary with music stilled

I hear a tree of cicadas but see few blooms

My old friend you are only in Nantian County

Yet there is no word from you for half a year

  2. What does it mean to be “only in Nantian County”? It sounds as though he is saying it isn’t such a bad deal to be there but his friend isn’t best pleased about being stuck there.
