Figs and Figs and Figs

I have ten varieties of figs and I am eating the fruit from three of them at the moment.  The relentless heatwave (29ºC at night; high 30s in the day) has hastened the ripening so I am picking more fruit than I can eat everyday.  Friends and neighbours are beneficiaries.


The two Black Genoa figs are the major producers but this year I’m eating from the Preston Prolific and the Picone Green for the first time.  Both are green figs though the Preston Prolific has some stripes.  Each has its own distinctive flavour; please don’t ask me to choose between them.  I love them all.



I might have left this Preston Prolific fig on the tree a day longer but a little worm has entered the fruit – you can see its head in front of my middle finger.

The Picone Green was perfectly ripe and yes, it testes as good as it looks :)img_1905
