Thinking of Shandong Brothers on the Ninth Day of the Ninth Month by Wang Wei (699-759)

This is my translation of Wang Wei’s poem:

王維:九月九日憶山東兄弟

Wang Wei: Thinking of Shandong Brothers on the Ninth Day of the Ninth Month

Alone as a foreigner in a foreign land

I long for loved ones at festivals

Knowing from afar where my brothers are hiking

All will wear Dogwood* but one

*Dogwood is worn for luck and remembrance of good friends on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month (重陽節Chongyang Festival)when people go hiking in the hills, some to tend the graves.
