Trial and Error and Before and After

In my Chinese Calligraphy class, students are required to self critique their work and make changes as necessary.  Last Tuesday students had a ‘test’ : some had a second attempt.  Here Jo wrote the character 春 (spring) twice.  Note the improvements she made:  the horizontal strokes were lifted at an angle the second time around, the left sweep had better definition and shape and there is an elegance and confidence in the character that was absent before.

Over all the students are progressing well. They will be trying to back their work next week so must work on their projects during the month long break.  Some will return for another term and others will be saying goodbye.

For me, I plan to retire at the end of next term.  It will be spring and I must go back to my orchard.  It is crying out for more attention.

wonderful how she improved. You are a really good teacher but I understand you must take care of your orchard, dear Mary. Have a nice day, regards Mitza
