Every morning I am touched to read emails that were written to me after I had gone to bed the night before. Most of my friends know not to call me unless they want to wake me; so they write. I suffer from fatigue and they know that I could be asleep at any time of the day. They also know that I am usually up before sunrise but then they would be asleep at that hour.
The hours before sunrise are the best hours of my day. My ritual is to have a cup of tea while I read emails and posts of bloggers that I follow. Then I try to learn something new by listening to a lecture or an interview online. I don’t watch television anymore so I will find entertainment online as well, perhaps later in the day.
I check the weather report: 20ºC now; 31ºC maximum today. That means that after feeding my worms and the fish at sunrise, I must water the garden.
A half hour before sunrise you can hear the early birds. From where I sit I can also hear the early traffic on the road. The temperature drops a couple of degrees at sunrise; don’t ask me why. I can feel the chill on my back; that first fresh breath of the day.
I will take my iPhone with me into the garden. I use it as my pocket radio (Classic FM) as well as a pocket camera. It’s seldom used as a telephone.
A friend has just returned from India. I will have coffee with her when the garden chores are done and after I’ve had my first nap of the day.
Here comes the day.
