No News is Good News

Another email arrived from my government (I’d registered my travel plans with them), two days after my holiday had ended, with news that might have spoilt it.

I was in Istanbul for a month.  During that time, I received warnings of terrorist threats, of contagious life threatening illnesses and now, ” an increase in the number of violent sexual assaults against female tourists travelling alone…in Istanbul…” and another reminder that the terrorist threats are still current.

Perhaps they should make travel agencies and airlines put warnings on their products. Much like warnings on cigarette packets.  Too late, when one is already there or like me, home.
