Onboard Friendship*

Friendship is the name of a Sydney Ferry, named after one of the ships in the First Fleet.  This poem is a palindrome.

From the upper deck of the last ferry

I spotted the seagull escorting us below

on its ink stained wings

alongside our boat

Dazzled by Friendship’s lights against the dark sea

buffered from a gale she sailed with us

her red bill a beacon

in the night

dazzled by Friendship’s lights against the dark sea

Alongside our boat

on its ink-stained wings

I spotted the seagull escorting us below

from the upper deck of the last ferry
